For one day only, the City of Santa Monica’s Solid Waste Management Division will conduct a FREE—that's right, FREE!—Public Electronics Recycling Event on Saturday, March 13, 2010. This event is a yearly round-up of electronic waste open to all residents and businesses throughout Santa Monica and the surrounding region. Clear your storage space of technologically deficient electronics by bringing them to the City Yards, 2500 Michigan Avenue (near Olympic and Cloverfield) from 8 a.m. to noon.
Electronic waste should never be left at the curb or in the alley, or placed into the trash or recycling cart for collection. Most electronic devices contain lead and other toxic metals that could be released and pose hazards to people, fish, or drinking water quality if they are broken – not to mention a variety of materials that can be recovered and used again.
Each year in California, hundreds of thousands of computers, monitors, copiers, fax machines, printers, televisions and other electronic items become obsolete as rapid advances in technology and the demand for new features accelerate the disposal of old electronic equipment. Enjoy your new toys, but do something good with the old ones!

The City of Santa Monica’s Solid Waste Management Division offers a comprehensive drop-off program for residents and businesses. Solid Waste provides electronic recycling at the Santa Monica Refuse Transfer Station six days a week, from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday, (310) 829-7323. Electronic recycling is free to Santa Monica residents and 50 cents per pound for businesses. All electronic waste is accepted.
