“Ice at Santa Monica” Returns for 2nd Year

For the second year in a row, visitors to Downtown Santa Monica can now glide, spiral and spin in a real winter wonderland of ice.

The parking lot at 5th Street and Arizona Avenue has once again been transformed into an ice skating rink, thanks to a partnership between the Bayside District Corporation and Starbucks, Inc., and to Ice Rink Events/Frozen Water, L.P. which installed the fair-weather ice.the Bayside

As part of the promotions, Starbucks will serve up a complimentary tall hot
beverage to anyone who brings an ICE at Santa Monica admission bracelet to a
participating Los Angeles or Orange County Starbucks.

“We are so thrilled to welcome Starbucks Coffee Company back as sponsor of the ICE
at Santa Monica rink this year,” said Kathleen Rawson, Executive Director, Bayside
District.

“They were such a wonderful partner last year, helping us stage exciting
events and supporting all of our efforts on behalf of the Santa Monica community. We
look forward to another outstanding holiday season, and are delighted to be working
with Starbucks again.”

Skaters of all ages can bring back childhood memories—and create new ones—on the 8,000-square-foot rink, which is 2,000 square feet bigger than last year’s.

Besides offering a larger skating area, ICE at Santa Monica presents several other special changes this season. The décor has been enhanced to include even more holiday lights
and sparkle.

This year, the rink will run via renewable energy sources in an effort to
minimize the impact on the environment.

Located less than two blocks from the Third Street Promenade, the rink is “an affordable, fun, healthy outdoor activity for the entire family to enjoy,” Rawson said.

ICE will run from November 7, 2008, to January 19, 2009, and will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Admission is $10, including the skate rental.
