Police Seek Victims of Senior Sex Offender

By Lookout Staff

September 18, 2026 -- Police are seeking additional victims of a registered senior sex offender arrested this month after indecently exposing himself at a Santa Monica women’s clothing store.

Michael Greenwald, a 72-year-old Calabasas resident, is accused of entering the store at around 3 p.m. on August 29 and telling an employee he needed to try on women’s clothing for a television show he was filming, police officials said.

"While trying on clothing, he allegedly intentionally exposed his genitals and buttocks to a female employee," said SMPD spokesman Lt Lewis Gilmour. "He then left without making a purchase."

After the incident was reported to police the following day, detectives reviewed footage of the suspect’s vehicle as part of the investigation," Gilmour said.

This led to Greenwald's identification and arrest on September 4. Investigators also served a search warrant at his residence and recovered evidence related to the case, according to police.

Greenwald is described as a White male, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall and 180 pounds, with brown hair, police said. He is a registered sex offender with prior convictions for similar conduct.

On September 8, 2026, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office charged Greenwald with one count of felony indecent exposure, police said.

Anyone who believes they may have been a victim of similar conduct involving Greenwald, or who has information relevant to this investigation, should contact Detective Carlos Madrid at carlos.madrid@santamonica.gov or 424-280-0133, or Sgt. George Burciaga at george.burciaga@santamonica.gov or 310-458-8952.
