May 12, 2025 -- Two burglary suspects, one on parole for attempted murder, were arrested Friday by officers conducting periodic checks near a bank drop box that had been repeatedly tampered with.
At around 1:48 a.m., the officers saw a vehicle circling the area near the 800 block of Wilshire Boulevard and "conducted a traffic stop for multiple vehicle code violations," according to an SMPD Facebook post Monday.
"The vehicle was occupied by two individuals," according to the post. "The driver was confirmed to be on parole for attempted murder."
Officers searched the vehicle and found a loaded 9mm firearm in the center console.
They also found a CCTV scanner, devices used to remotely start vehicles, key fobs, a laptop, ski masks and various burglary tools.
The search also turned up a hat, sweatshirt and backpack matching those worn by the suspect "seen in bank surveillance footage," police said.
The driver, who was not identified in the post, was arrested for parole violation, possession of burglary tools, conspiracy, being a felon in possession of a Firearm and having a concealed firearm in the vehicle.
The passenger was arrested for possession of burglary tools and conspiracy, according to the blog.
Both suspects remain in police custody pending a scheduled court appearance Tuesday.
