November 27, 2023 -- An all-star trio of local musicians will take the stage at the Santa Monica Public Library’s acclaimed Soundwaves new music series Saturday.

Jazz clarinetist Ben Goldberg will be joined by bassist Todd Sickafoose and drummer Scott Amendola, all three band leaders who are in high demand as sidemen, concert organizers said.

The concert will take place at the Main Library’s Martin Luther King Jr. Auditorium, 601 Santa Monica Boulevard, on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

As leader of the New Klezmer Trio, Goldberg "was among the first to combine Eastern European Jewish music with contemporary jazz," organizers said.

He has performed with New York composer John Zorn, a major influence in classical, avant-garde, jazz and Jewih music of the past 50 years. He also has played with Nels Cline, Allison Miller, and other leading artists.

Best known as the regular accompanist of singer/songwriter Ani DiFranco, bassist Todd Sickafoose recently won Grammy and Tony awards for his contributions to the Broadway musical "Hadestown."

Drummer Scott Amendola has played with jazz and rock stars including Pat Metheny, Mike Patton and members of the Grateful Dead.

Soundwaves "draws on Los Angeles’ broad history of creative music" and has included collaborations with the Angel City Jazz Festival, Piano Spheres, Jacaranda, Microfest, Cold Blue Music and the Dog Star Orchestra.

Established in 2016, it has presented free concerts at the Santa Monica Public Library with support from the Friends of the Santa Monica Public Library and the Amphion Foundation.
