March 2, 2022 -- A homeless felon was arrested for burglarizing an apartment building in the Mid City Neighborhood Tuesday, according to police.

In a separate incident Tuesday night, a man was stabbed after a fight broke out at the platform of the 26th Street and Bergamot Metro Expo line station, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The burglary took place at an apartment building on the 1000 block of 17th Street and was reported by a person who saw the suspect stealing four scooters through the security camera system.

"The witness chased the suspect out of the secured subterranean garage," said Lt. Rudy Fores, the Police Department spokesman.

Officers responding to the call located the suspect in the 1100 block of 16th Street with two of the scooters, he said.

The suspect, who was later identified as Samuel Elijah Hamilton, a 38-year-old homeless man, "failed to obey the officer’s order and attempted to flee," Flores said.

"The officers were able to detain him and take him into custody. They located a live ammunition round in his possession and discovered that he is a convicted felon."

Hamilton was identified as the suspect who took the scooters, and the victim identified his stolen property, Flores said.

Hamilton was booked for burglary, resisting/delaying arrest and possession of ammunition when prohibited from possessing a firearm, police said.

The stabbing at the Expo line station took place around 10:20 p.m. after a fight broke out on the platform, said LA Sheriff's spokesman Ramon Montenegro.

Deputy Sheriffs responding to a report of a fight and stabbing found the victim with "multiple stab wounds," Montenegro said.

The victim was transported to the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center where he underwent surgery, he said.

According to witnesses, the victim "got into a fight with someone in the company of another individual," Montenegro said.

It is not known if the three men involved were passengers or if they were homeless, he said.

"Detectives will be looking at security video," Montenegro said.

The suspects left the scene and as of 7:45 p.m. Wednesday remained at large. A description of the suspects was not available.

Anyone with information concerning the burglary should call Detective Diaz at 310-458-4408 or the Watch Commander (24 hours) at 310-458-8426.

Editor's note: A previous version of this article reported that the stabbing took place at a Metrlink Station. The station is an Metro Expo line station.
