By Lookout Staff February 10, 2022 -- School District officials warned parents and students Wednesday night that a man has been lurking outside local campuses talking to pre-teen and teenage girls. The subject is described as a Hispanic man in his early 70s, 6-feet tall and weighing 210 pounds, according to police. He has gray hair, brown eyes and possibly a goatee. It is possible that he may be driving a white vehicle whose make and model are "unknown at this time." District Superintendent Ben Drati said the Santa Monica Police Department alerted District officials Wednesday about the man. "He is known to local law enforcement, however, had not been seen during the pandemic, until now," Drati wrote in an email to parents, guardians, staff and students. "He typically engages girls in conversation, makes comments and has been seen taking photos of girls," Drati said. "In the past, he has followed female students on foot." "We encourage everyone to be aware of their surroundings when walking to and from school, and at all times," Drati said. Those who witnesses unusual behavior by anyone should contact SMPD or We Tip at https://www.wetip.com/submit-a-tip/ "Our top priorities are the safety and health of our students and staff," Drati said. "We will share more information when and if available." |
