August 28, 2019 -- A man who shot his teenage brother to death in a Santa Monica apartment Sunday has been charged with murder, police said.

Christopher Michael Mondev was arraigned Tuesday on one count of murder in the shooting of his 19-year-old brother Charles Edward Mondev in an apartment where they lived with their parents.

Bail has been set at $3 million.

"Upon arrival, it was determined that one of the brothers used a small caliber handgun to shoot the other inside their residence," said Lt. Candice Cobarrubias, the Police Department Spokesperson.

"The brother who had been shot suffered from a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced at the scene."

The two brothers were arguing when the killing took place, police said.

The investigation is on-going and a motive for the shooting is still being determined, Cobarruvbias said.

Christopher Mondev was taken into custody on Sunday without incident and booked for homicide.

The LA District Attorney’s office has not yet set a preliminary date for the case.

The shooting is the second homicide in Santa Monica this year.

In January, a 42-year-old man was charged with murder after stabbing his mother to death in her Sunset Park home ("Woman Fatally Stabbed in Sunset Park, Son in Custody," January 24, 2019).

Anyone with information on Sunday's shooting should call Detective D. Haro at 310-458-8432 or the Watch Commander at 310-458-8427.
