Santa Monica Elks Lodge Honors Phil Brock as Citizen of the Year

March 28, 2018 -- The Santa Monica Elks Lodge will recognize Arts Commissioner and longtime community volunteer Phil Brock during its Annual Citizen of the Year Dinner Thursday.

A longtime community organizer, Brock, who has also served on the City's Recreation and Parks Commission, will be honored "for his ability to inspire others to give whatever they can to support those in need," organizers said.

Brock, who grew up in Santa Monica and attended local schools, has a long record volunteering for local nonprofit organizations. Currently, he is president of the Santa Monica High School Alumni Association, which helps raise funds for annual student scholarships, and president of the Kiwanis Club of Santa Monica, which benefits children worldwide and provides scholarships for local teens. "Phil is committed to preserving the unique quality of life in Santa Monica for all residents and for those who will live here in the future," organizers said.

The Santa Monica Elks Lodge, which was founded more than 100 years ago, provides programs and scholarships for local youth.

The lodge also sponsors housing for homeless veterans at the Veterans Administration and provides year-round assistance for vets.

"The Elks Lodge is a place for members to gather, socialize and work together to help others," organizers said.

The Annual Citizen of the Year Dinner takes place Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 1040 Pico Boulevard.
