Santa Monica Review Launches Spring Issue with Author Readings

March 27, 2018 -- Santa Monica College’s (SMC) bi-annual literary arts journal will launch its spring issue with three author readings and an appearance at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books next month.

Santa Monica Review (SMR) -- the only nationally distributed literary magazine published by a U.S. community college -- will hold a a launch party Sunday, April 8, at 5 p.m. at The Edye at SMC Performing Arts Center, 1310 11th Street. Admission is $10.

Contributors Halina Duraj ("The Family Cannon"), Alisa Slaughter ("Bad Habitats"), Charles Hood ("Partially Excited States") and Victoria Patterson ("The Little Brother") will read from their work.

Journalist and KPFK Radio’s “Rising Up” host Sonali Kolhatkar will introduce the event. There will be a book signing and refreshments. Free parking is available on the premises. Visit Brownpapertickets.com for ticket details.

On Sunday, April 15, at 4:30 p.m., Beyond Baroque, 681 Venice Boulevard, in Venice welcomes SMR editor Andrew Tonkovich and contributors Grace Singh Smith, Alex R. Jones and Andrew Nicholls, who will read from their work.

Tickets, which are $10, will be for sale at the door.

On Saturday, April 21 & Sunday, April 22, SMR will have a tent at the annual books festival held at the University of Southern California.

Complimentary copies of the latest issue will be distributed at the event, which is free.

The series of readings concludes Sunday, May 6, at 7 p.m. with an event at the
Ruskin Group Theatre Company, 3000 Airport Avenue in Santa Monica.

Susan Hayden, the host of the popular local reading series Library Girl will welcome SMR editor Tonkovich and SMR readers Garrett Saleen, Grace Singh Smith and David Preizler.

Tickets, which are $10, will be available on the Ruskin Group Theatre Company’s website: www.ruskingrouptheatre.com the week of April 9 (Select “Library Girl”).

Founded by critically-acclaimed novelist and SMC English instructor Jim Krusoe ("The Sleep Garden," "Parsifal"), the bi-annual literary magazine showcases the work of established authors alongside emerging writers, with a focus on West Coast short stories and essays.

Santa Monica Review is sold at the SMC Bookstore, Beyond Baroque and Small World Books in Venice, and other local booksellers. The publication is available for $7 per issue or $12 for the two issues each year.
