Santa Monica-Malibu School District Appoints New Assistant Superintendent |

September 14, 2017 -- The School Board on Wednesday approved the appointment of a Santa Barbara educator to serve as assistant superintendent of educational services for the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District (SMMUSD). Dr. Jacqueline Mora -- a 17 year veteran of education who has served as an elementary school principal for schools in Santa Barbara, San Francisco and Glendale -- will assume the post October 2.
She also developed and implemented goals and objectives and coordinated and conducted professional learning for teachers and support staff serving English learners. In addition to serving as principal in three California school districts, Mora has served as assistant principal, categorical program advisor and teacher in LAUSD. She is bilingual in Spanish. Mora has a Bachelor of Arts in Chicano Studies and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from University of California, Santa Barbara and a master’s degree in education with a concentration of teaching and learning from UCSB. She also has a master’s degree in education with a concentration in administrative and policy studies from UCLA and a doctorate in education in K-12 leadership in urban education from USC. Her dissertation in entitled: “Promising Practices that Superintendents Use to Influence Instruction and Increase the Achievement of Latino Students in Urban School Districts."
