May 26, 2017 -- The Santa Monica College Foundation will award scholarships totalling $670,000 to 548 students at a ceremony next month, college officials announced this week.

The non-profit organization, which supports the educational endeavors of SMC students present the scholarships at its annual scholarship ceremony at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 10 at the SMC Pavilion on the main campus.

The scholarship ceremony also will recognize outstanding SMC scholar athletes for 2016-2017. Sponsored by the SMC General Advisory Board and the SMC Associated Students, the awards recognize students in each sport "for their achievements in academics, athletics and community service," college officials said.

“We are deeply grateful to the generous donors who have taken such an active step to advance the aspirations of Santa Monica College students to meet an educational goal, and it is indeed a mutual privilege,” said Deanna Hansen, who chairs the Foundation.

“SMC students are capable of building a better world, and the SMC Foundation is proud to be the conduit that brings generous donors and worthy recipients together,” she said.

Donors, as well as those who made one-time gifts, will have the chance to meet the scholarship recipients before the start of the ceremony.

Founded in 1956, the Foundation is a separate, non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)3 organization that receives private, tax-deductible donations to benefit Santa Monica College and its entities.

Members of the public who wish to attend should send their RSVPs by June 2 via email to
