August 9, 2017 -- The Twilight Concert Series' penultimate show on the Santa Monica Pier features performers that showcase a growing hybrid sound in Latin music.
Headliner Mon Laferte taps the influence of rock, blues, pop and electronic music to create a compelling backdrop for her melancholic voice, while opening act Buscabulla find its inspiration in salsa gorda, raggaeton, Cuban psych and '80s Argentinian rock.

Mon Laferte, who hails from Viña del Mar, Chile, has been nominated for two Latin Grammy Awards and is a winner of double platinum album plus gold in Mexico, as well as two MTV 2016 awards.
"Even in her teen years she transmitted her feelings through the verses she was writing," concert promoters said.
"Musically educated in the streets of Viña del Mar and Valparaiso, she captures popular poetry from her roots that reflect in her tearing yet melancholic voice."

Buscabulla (Spanish slang for troublemaker) combines both electronic and live instrumentation to create a hybrid sound they like to call the "Caribbean music of the future."

The group is the experimental pop project of the Puerto Rican-born, Brooklyn-based couple Raquel Berrios, a designer, record collector and producer, and multi instrumentalist and producer Luis del Valle.
"Their aesthetic is post-chillwave but decidedly Caribbean," Pitchfork wrote, "with percussion that skews towards salsa, and there are discernible nods to reggaeton, bachata, and even hints of Sade’s new age soul." |
Now in its 33rd year, the Thursday night summer series -- billed as "Southern California's largest free concert series" -- holds its final concert August 17.
DJs from media partner KCRW will present each concert in the series, which is co-produced by RH&S Concerts, a partnership between Spaceland Presents and Rum & Humble.
