March 19, 2015 -- A “conscientious” wealth management firm, a restaurant serving Northern Italian cuisine with local organic ingredients from farmers markets and an “eco-conscious” beachside hotel are the top winners of 2015 Sustainable Quality Awards, officials announced Wednesday.

Among the other winners are a local spa and such well-known names as Hulu and Red Bull.

The awards – now in their 20th year – honor businesses that make big achievements in the categories of sustainable economic development, social responsibility and stewardship of the environment, officials said.

“We are so proud to celebrate 20 years of the oldest and most rigorous sustainable business award in Southern California" said Shannon Parry, with the City of Santa Monica's Office of Sustainability and the Environment. "

She said 175 awards have been given to 131 businesses since 1995.

“These awards recognize businesses for their exemplary leadership and we hope to inspire other businesses to take action to further our Sustainable City Plan goals," said Parry.

The SQA Grand Prizes went to Capital Intelligence Associates, Locanda del Lago and Shore Hotel.

SQA Excellence awards went to Alchemie Spa, Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel and Santa Monica Hybrid – The Hybrid Shop for stewardship of the environment.

In the category of Social Responsibility, Excellence Awards were won by Community Corporation of Santa Monica, Hulu, Le Meridien Delfina Hotel, Red Bull North America and St. Monica Catholic Community.

In the category of Economic Development, Excellence winners were Santa Monica Seafood and SP Plus.

SQA winners will be formally recognized during a special luncheon ceremony 11 a.m. on April 16 at Le Meridien Delfina Hotel in Santa Monica. Pre-paid tickets are $50 for Chamber members and $60 for non-members. Tickets also can be purchased by visiting or can be reserved in advance by calling 310-393-9825.

In addition, the Santa Monica Bike Center will pick up the tab for the awards luncheon for the first 35 registrants who pledge to arrive by bike. Last year, the Santa Monica Bike Center won SQA Excellence in Stewardship of the Environment.

This year’s award for Individual Stewardship will be given to Dean Kubani, manager of the City of Santa’s Office of Sustainability and Environment.
