September 28, 2012 -- Sujan Lowenthal became the newest member of the Santa Monica's Big Blue Bus team this summer when she was hired as to oversee the public face of the City's transit company.
Lowenthal, who was hired as BBB's Manager of Transit Government and Community Relations in July, will be in charge of developing marketing, community outreach, government relations and customer service planning.
One of Lowenthal's main goals in her new position is to make Big Blue Bus, “a transit agency that every rider and potential rider can relate to and depend on in an easy and natural way.”
“We are your transit partner,” she said.
Toward that end, Lowenthal is working on developing a new website and a mobile app that will provide real-time transit information to passengers.
Her department, which runs the Tranist Store near the 3rd Street Promenade on Broadway, is also responsible for getting the word out to BBB's ridership when schedules and routes of the buses change.
“I am very pleased that Suja has joined us,” Big Blue Bus Director Edward King said in a press release Thursday. “She brings a breadth and depth of economic and community development, planning, branding, media relations, regulatory affairs, legislative, strategic organization and community relations experience to BBB and the City.”
Lowenthal, who currently sits on the Long Beach City Council, comes to her new position after working for two years as an independent consultant for civil engineering firms, specifically working projects related to water, sustainability and transportation.
She has also worked as the chief of Strategic Planning and Initiatives at the Water Replenishment District and Government Relations and as the Public Outreach Manager for Central & West Basin Municipal Water Districts.
