Driver in Felony Hit and Run Still at Large

By Lookout Staff

May 20, 2009 – Police are asking for help finding the driver of a late model Lexus SUV who hit an elderly pedestrian at a local hospital earlier this month and fled the scene.

The driver is described as a white man between 50 to 70 years old, with gray hair and a gray goatee, police said.

“The driver of this vehicle parked in the parking structure and may have had an appointment or was at the location to pick up a patient,” said Sgt. Jay Trisler, the police department spokesman.

The felony hit and run took place May 11 shortly before 2 p.m. near the 20th Street driveway entrance to the parking structure for Saint John’s Health Center, police said. The entrance also serves the medical plazas located at 2001 and 2021 Santa Monica Boulevard.

After running over the pedestrian, the driver continued into the parking structure, police said.

The driver then left the scene without rendering aid or notifying the police.

Based on interviews with witnesses, police believe the vehicle involved may have been a newer silver or gray Lexus RX model Sport Utility Vehicle.

Those who may know of someone who drives this type of vehicle, had an appointment or dropped someone off at St. John’s Hospital or any of the medical buildings in the area on Monday, May 11 should call Investigator Chris Dawson at 310.458.8954 or Sgt. Larry Horn 310. 458.8950 or the Watch Commander (24 hours) 310.458.8427.
