Two Women Shot in Upscale Santa Monica Neighborhood

By Lookout Staff

April 27 – Police are looking for a man who shot two women behind a rent control apartment building in Santa Monica’s upscale north side Friday evening.

The victims were standing “to the rear” of the building at 135 San Vicente Boulevard with a third woman when a man fired several shots at around 9:25 p.m., police said.

Two passing physicians who heard the shots provided immediate medical care until paramedics from the Santa Monica Fire Department arrived, said Lt. Daniel Salerno.

The two victims were transported to local area hospitals, he said. One victim is listed in critical condition, while the other is in stable condition. Both victims are expected to survive their injuries.

“Preliminary investigation indicates that the victims may have been specifically targeted as a result of previous incidents in which they were involved,” Salerno said.

The suspect is described as a male, possibly white, in his mid 20s, 5'10” to 6' tall and approximately 180 pounds, police said.

He was wearing a black t-shirt and shorts and may have facial hair, police said.

The suspect fled east from the location on foot, Salerno said. No vehicle was seen, and the suspect is still at large.

The building where the shootings took place is in a pricey ocean-view neighborhood near Palisades Park.

Rents at the building range from $855 for units occupied by long-time tenants, to $3,417 for a unit fetching market rates under a 10-year-old State law that allows landlords to raise rents when a unit is voluntarily vacated or the tenant is evicted for not paying rent.
