May 15 -- Police are looking for one or more suspects
responsible for assaulting a man Sunday night in the Pico Neighborhood.
Santa Monica resident Preston Brumfield was assaulted at 11:30
p.m. on the 1900 block of 20th Street, police said.
The block is one of the most crime-prone areas in the city, having
been the site of several gang-related shootings in the past five
years.
Police responding to a call for service found the subject lying
unconscious on the sidewalk, said Sgt. Renaldi Thurston, the Police
Department spokesman.
“Paramedics from the Santa Monica Fire Department were summoned
and transported the subject to a local hospital,” Thurston
said.
Police determined that the man was the apparent victim of an assault,
he said.
The department released the victim’s name in the hopes someone
who knew him may help track down those responsible for the assault,
Thurston said.
Police have no suspect information at this time, he said.
Anyone with additional information should call Santa Monica Police
Department Detectives at 310.458.8451 Monday through Friday between
8 a.m. and 5 p.m. or the Watch Commander at 310.458.8427 at any
time.
Anyone wishing to remain anonymous may call the WeTip hotline at
1-800-78-CRIME (27463).
