June 21 -- Los Angeles police are looking for a man who is robbing the homes
of elderly women in West Los Angeles after entering through windows.
The suspect, who has hit at least five homes, one of them near Santa Monica,
enters late at night or in the early morning hours, according to Los Angeles
police.
He wears all dark clothing, a ski mast and gloves, police said.
“He awakes the victim and demands money and jewelry,” according
to a statement issued by police. “Afterwards the suspect ransacks the
victim’s home and flees.”
The suspect is described as a male black between 25 and 35 years of age, 6
feet tall and weighing between 200 and 220 pounds.
One of the robberies took place on the 1700 block of Bundy Drive, just four
blocks from Santa Monica’s eastern border.
“In light of these recent string of robberies, it is more important than
ever that senior citizens take precautions,” said Council member Jack
Weiss, who chairs the public safety committee.
Weiss advises residents to lock doors and windows, use alarm systems and increase
outdoor lighting.
“Those are good safety precautions to for everyone to prevent crime at
home,” Weiss said.
Police advise residents to photograph and engrave their valuables, such as
jewelry, silverware and artwork.
