December 23 – Council member Richard Bloom, who
was recently re-elected to another four years on the council, announced
Tuesday that he will curtail his law practice to join PATH Partners,
a non-profit organization that provides innovative services for
LA’s homeless individuals and their communities.
During his decade on the council, Bloom has focused on homelessness,
helping to draw up the blueprint for Bring LA Home, a plan to lift
the largest concentration of homeless in the North America off the
streets in ten years. (“Local

As executive director of Community Initiatives, Bloom will further his work
helping address Los Angeles’ entrenched and growing homeless problem.
“Homelessness, as always, is at the top of my list,” Bloom wrote
in an email to friends and supporters Tuesday. “Anyone who has heard me
speak about this issue has heard my ‘mantra’ -- We can't end homelessness
as we know it until every corner of our region is working effectively together
on solutions.”
“My re-election to the City Council permits me to continue working on
Santa Monica's highly regarded local policies,” Bloom wrote. “In
addition, I now have the opportunity to work directly on coordinating regional
leadership to end homelessness.”
For 25 years, PATH Partners has provided housing development and
social services to address homelessness, housing, and poverty, and
its efforts have been followed by communities across the country.
Among its offerings is the award-winning PATH Mall, a model multi- service
center where individuals can find job training, healthcare, legal
services, a haircut and other services, all under one roof, Bloom
said.
