“Dub Side of the Moon” Kicks off Free Pier Concert Series Thursday Night

By Lookout Staff

June 30 -- The 21st Annual Twilight Dance series kicks off on the pier Thursday night with the Easy Star All-Stars’ full reggae treatment of Pink Floyd’s landmark album “Dark Side of the Moon.”

One of the biggest selling reggae albums of recent years, “Dub Side of the Moon” has won raves for the band, a collective family of some of the finest reggae musicians in the New York area.

The Easy Star All-Stars features a rotating cast drawn from a talented pool of players, which guarantees that every show has a life of its own.

The masterminds behind the All-Stars are Easy Star musical director Michael Goldwasser (a.k.a. Michael G), his production partner Victor Axelrod (a.k.a. Ticklah), and his two Easy Star label partners Eric Smith and Lem Oppenheimer.

Recorded in 2003, Dub Side of the Moon has sold over 70,000 copies, making it one of the most successful reggae albums of the 21st century. It continues to sell, having just completed its 94th week on Billboard’s Top Reggae Chart.

Opening this summer’s reggae night are L.A. stalwarts Detour Posse, direct from touring with Barrington Levy and others.

The free concerts -- which start at 7:30 p.m. -- are held for ten consecutive Thursday nights on the historic pier.
