Burglaries Hit City's North East Side
By Lookout Staff
Residences and business in the north east section of the city have been
hit with a rash of burglaries and police are warning residents and business
owners to take precautions.
The residential burglaries, which began two weeks ago, are occurring
in the late evening and night hours with the suspect entering single family
homes north of Wilshire Boulevard through open windows and sometimes through
rear doors and windows, which have been smashed, police officials said.
The loss has generally been cash and jewelry.
"There are three solid ones [burglaries] we feel are connected to
each other," said department spokesperson Lt. P.J. Guido.
Neighbors are your best allies in regard to a residential burglary, according
to a police statement. They may be able to see a burglar before you ever
know someone is attempting to enter your home.
As a neighbor, you should not try to get involved by confronting the
suspect, but rather you should call 911 and provide the operator with
as much information as possible to help officers locate the subject.
Police are asking that business verify that their locks are of good quality,
empty their cash registers every night, test their alarm systems and verify
that their alarm companies or the police department have current phone
numbers for the business' contact persons.
