(Re: Council Explores Tackling Youth Violence with Jobs, Oct. 15, 2003)

If the Santa Monica City Council can find millions and millions of dollars for homeless people who are not from Santa Monica but who live in and foul the streets of this city during this "age of limited resources," there MUST be a way to fund jobs for the youth of Santa Monica who actually want to work here, live here and be a healthy part of the community.

I applaud the City Council and the Pico Neighborhood Association for this bold and creative initiative.

Dear Editor,

No one deserves the kudos more than Office Joe. ("Santa Monica’s Finest: Twenty years in the Making," Oct. 15, 2003)

His dedication has reached into every school in the district and benefited every teacher whose class or students were touched by this public servant. While others flounder in a sea of rhetoric in attempting to do something about at-risk youth -- Sergeant Analco rolled up his sleeves and accomplished the task the hard way... one child at a time.

And like the proverbial pebble in the water, the ripple effect of his service will still be paying dividends generations from now. For all the teachers in Santa Monica and Malibu, THANKS JOE!

Dear Editor,

I read with grim fascination a letter sent to The Lookout from Bruria Finkel. ("LETTERS: Condescending Words and Disturbing Opinions," Oct. 7, 2003)
In it, Ms. Finkel claims that there is no place in our community for stupidity. Well, Ms. Finkel, you just proved that not only is there room in this community for stupidity, but also for racism, bigotry, and ignorance.

Your claims that Mr. Schwarzenegger ever claimed any sympathy for Hitler are patently false. In fact, Albert Kaufman (amongst others), who runs the largest Jewish organization in Austria, conducted a full investigation regarding such racist claims such as yours and found not a scintilla of evidence to support it.

Moreover, Mr. Schwarzenegger (or "Black niger" as you called him) has contributed greatly to many Jewish causes in the U.S. and the Southland. One can hardly imagine an anti-Semite going as far in Hollywood as Arnold Schwarzenegger has.

If it weren't for the fact that people in this community have actually taken you seriously on other subjects, one could dismiss you as a ranting lunatic carrying deep-rooted psychological traumas. But the fact that you seem to have at least convinced some in this community to agree with your diatribes means that you now you must stand up and tell the whole world that the "Black niger" is your governor!
