|Santa Monica Women's Shelter Offers Training for Volunteers|
August 31, 2010 -- Training for those who wish to volunteer at Sojourn Services for Battered Women and Their Children will begin on Tuesday, September 14 and will be held twice a week through November.
The training -- which takes place Tuesday and Thursdays nights from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. is mandatory for anyone who would like to volunteer at Sojourn.
Since 1977, Sojourn has been a sanctuary for women and children, providing safety and shelter to victims of domestic violence. Sojourn works to empower women and children to regain their dignity and make choices to stop the cycle of violence in families.
Sojourn was founded in 1963 as a project of Santa Monica based Ocean Park Community Center (OPCC), a network of housing and services that provides assistance to low-income and homeless youth, adults and families, battered women and their children, at-risk youth, and people living with mental illness.
Once the training is completed, volunteers staff the 24 hour hotline, facilitate support groups for women, work in the children’s program and provide administrative assistance. Those wishing to enroll in this training should contact Theresa Abes at 310-264-6646 x225 or via email at email@example.com.
