SMC Presents Eclectic Concert Mix in October

 The Santa Monica College Music Department will present an eclectic mix of concerts in October, all of which will be held at The Broad Stage or Edye Second Space at the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center, located on Santa Monica Boulevard at 11th Street.

The lineup is:

* Friday, Oct. 2 at 7 & 9 p.m.: Jazz - Gaea Schell Quartet, known for its steadfast swing and elegance of expression. Edye Second Space. (Tickets are $10)

* Sunday, Oct. 4 at 4 p.m.: "An Afternoon of Musical Treasures by the SMC Music Faculty," featuring chamber music, solos, new compositions and some surprises. The Broad Stage. Seating is on a first-arrival basis. (Free)

* Sunday, Oct. 11 at 4 p.m.: SMC Orchestra, under the baton of Jim Martin. The concert will feature Nora Chiang as soloist in Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1 in a program that includes Schubert's Symphony No. 4 and the famous Water Music Suites by Handel as part of SMC's focus on the vital resource of water this academic year. The Broad Stage. (Tickets are $10)

* Thursday, Oct. 15 at 11:15 a.m.: Vocal Master Class by Gail Gordon. Edye Second Space. (Free)

* Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 11:15 a.m.: Piano Master Class by Yulia Kozlova. Edye Second Space. (Free)

* Thursday, Oct. 22 at 11:15 a.m.: Guitar Master Class by Angel Romero. Edye Second Space. (Free, but reservations are required by calling 310-434-3200)

* Friday, Oct. 23 at 7 & 9 p.m.: Jazz: Eric Person & Meta-Four West, featuring Dwight Trible. New York-based Person is setting a new standard in sound - on his saxophone and with his dynamic band Meta-Four - and expands on it with singer Trible, who combines the best of vocal virtuosity with musicianship and improvisational skills.
