Santa Monica's Miles Playhouse Gets Ready for the Holiday Season
By Lookout Staff
November 21, 2012 -- The Miles Memorial Playhouse in Reed Park is getting ready to kick off its fourth annual “Fireside at the Miles,” 16 nights of a variety of performances both musical and theatrical.
Starting December 14 and running through January 26, the Miles Memorial Playhouse will host “contemporary music, opera, jazz, storytelling, dance, poetry, beat-boxing, a capella singoffs and more,” according to Santa Monica officials.
The series, sponsored by the City's Cultural Affairs Division will feature performances by the Santa Monica Woodwind Quintet, singer-songwriters David Poe and Amy Raasch, jazz guitarist Scott Detweiler and a local a capella group called Frequency, among others.
“For Fireside performances, the centerpiece of the historic Spanish Revival style theater becomes its distinctive, rustic fireplace,” officials said.
The ambiance will be amplified, according to City officials, when “The usual seating arrangements are replaced with a more intimate setup of couches, coffee tables, candles and an organic tea and snack bar, great for cozying up with friends as well as enjoying small scale live entertainment.”
