Hit-and-Run Driver Wanted by Santa Monica Police

June 27, 2012 -- Santa Monica Police are looking for the driver of a white sedan after the car hit a pedestrian at Colorado Avenue and Fifth Street early Saturday morning.

Roger Slifer -- who is now in critical condition -- was crossing Fifth Street just before 1 a.m. when the late 1990s to early 2000s sedan with a sunroof and tinted rear windows hit him as it was turning left onto Fifth Street, according to police.

“Slifer sustained major head and body trauma and was transported to a local trauma center,” police said.

Police have no information about the driver of the vehicle, who failed to stop at the scene of the accident, said Police Department spokesman Sgt. Richard Lewis.

The vehicle is likely to have sustained damage on the right front corner, which struck Slifer, police said.

Officials are looking for information about the driver, who continued north on Fifth Street and turned right onto Broadway Avenue after the collision.
