By Lookout Staff

November 30, 2011 -- Santa Monica College will showcase independently produced student films in all genres during its annual Film Festival December 10.

The films -- shot by members of the SMC Student Filmmakers Association are made independently from SMC's film production classes.

The films are shot "on ultra-low budgets, completely student-financed, and are mostly shot on digital video and edited on home computer systems," according to college officials.

"Some of the club's members are also film studies majors at SMC, and many have aspirations to go on to more advanced study at major film schools such as UCLA and USC," officials said. "In addition, the club's most serious filmmakers have aspirations to work professionally in the motion picture industry."

The festival is the culminating event that showcases the whole fall semester's creative output of SMC student filmmaking, officials said.

The scrennings will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10 in Room 165 of the Humanities & Social Sciences Complex on the main campus,1900 Pico Blvd. The event is free, as is parking. Seating is limited and is on a first-arrival basis.

The evening of SMC student films is sponsored by the SMC Communication Department in association with the Student Filmmakers Association.
