By Lookout Staff June 2, 2011 – The Santa Monica Police Department released sketches this week of a suspect wanted for the brutal assault of a man outside a Main Street pub earlier this month and the suspect's girlfriend who was with him at the time. The victim, a 46-year-old white man, remains in a coma at a local hospital. Police are asking for the public's help in identifying the suspect and his girlfriend, who is not wanted for the crime.
Eyewitnesses told police that the victim, who was intoxicated, collided with the couple as he left O'Brien's Irish Pub and Restaurant at 2941 Main Street around 1 a.m. on May 6. The suspect became upset and pushed the victim repeatedly, finally knocking him down onto the pavement where he hit his head, witnesses said. The victim was knocked unconscious and sustained major head trauma, police say. Witness statements lead police to believe the suspect had probably stopped in at O'Brien's and a neighboring bar, Main on Main before the assault. The composite drawings are based on information given by an eyewitness. The suspect was described as 25 to 30-year-old African-American man, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a muscular or stocky build, medium to dark complexion, wearing a white V-neck shirt and dark jeans. His companion was a white woman in her mid- to late twenties, 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing 130 pounds with long blond hair drawn into a ponytail, fair to light complexion, wearing a light colored blouse with shoulder straps and unknown colored pants. This investigation is ongoing and anyone having information is asked to contact: Detective Michael Bambrick (310) 458-8932 or Sergeant Ira Rutan (310) 458-8959 or the Santa Monica Police Department (24 hours) at (310) 458-8495.
