|Villaraigosa Endorses Osborn in Assembly Race|
By Lookout Staff
August 10, 2011 – Torie Osborn, candidate for the newly redrawn and re-numbered 50th Assembly District, has been endorsed by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
Osborn is running for the State Assembly seat to be vacated by Julia Brownley, who also has endorsed Osborn, as has former State Senator Sheila Kuehl.
Santa Monica Mayor Richard Bloom is one of her opponents in the assembly race.
“As a local leader who has worked on some of the most pressing issues of our time, from protecting our environment, to creating jobs, expanding access to better healthcare, helping the homeless, and fighting for equality, Torie Osborn has proven herself to be a champion for those who need a voice,” said Villaraigosa.
“She has demonstrated a clear understanding of the issues that face her district and I know that she will be a strong representative for the residents of California’s 50th Assembly District,” he said.
Osborn thanked Villaraigosa for his endorsement.
“It is an absolute honor to have the support of such a renowned and well respected leader in California,” said Osborn. “I look forward to partnering with Mayor Villaraigosa in my campaign and once I am elected to the State Assembly.”
So far, Osborn has raised $294,400 for her assembly race.
Bloom had raised in excess of $160,000 as of June 30, and is “well on his way to $200,000,” his Campaign Manager Steve Afriat told The Lookout Tuesday.
The 2012 elections will be held for newly-drawn districts, thanks to the work of the California Citizens' Redistricting Commission which is made up of three Republican, three Democratic and two “decline to state” members.
Their latest preliminary map shows a new 50th Assembly District which includes Santa Monica, West Hollywood, Bel Air, Malibu and Agoura Hills, replacing the 41st Assembly District. After public review, the commission will vote on final adoption of its maps on August 15.
