First-time applicants who qualify may call to be put on the application mailing list or print out an application from the District’s web site at www.smmusd.org/Senior Exemption/Application for Senior Exemption. This application must be completed, signed and returned, along with the two required proofs of age and property ownership, by July 31.
Measure R is the lone parcel tax for the SMMUSD to goes toward funding District programs and staffing. This is not connected to regular property taxes that contribute to public education. The District attempted to add a $198 parcel tax to residents’ bill last month. The item, Measure A, failed to gain the necessary two-thirds support needed for passage The District, which has a deficit due to decreased funding from the State, is considering another parcel tax. An election for that tax could take place as soon as November.
