Former S.M. Police Chief Headed to Runoff for Inglewood Mayor)

By Lookout Staff

June 10, 2010 --Unofficial results for the Inglewood mayoral race show former Santa Monica Police Chief James T. Butts is in second place and qualified for an August runoff against Councilman Daniel Tabor. An official from Inglewood’s City Clerk’s office said a date has not been set for the election.

Butts received 23.71 percent of the vote and Tabor earned 26.38 percent support. There were nine candidates in the special election. Inglewood has been without a mayor since Roosevelt Dorn resigned in January after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor conflict-of-interest charge. He accepted a loan through a City-backed housing program. The winner of this election will complete his term that expires in December.

Butts was hired as Santa Monica’s police chief in 1991. He resigned from the position in 2006 to take the post as the head of police and security operations at Los Angeles World Airports, which includes LAX. He stepped down from that position last fall.
