Santa Monica Place Lands Three Key Tenants

By Lookout Staff

September 25, 2009 – Stores that feature sneakers, furniture and name brand clothing have scored prime locations when Santa Monica Place opens after a major remodel next August, Macerich officials announced Thursday.

Nike -- one of the world’s leading designers, marketers and distributors of authentic athletic footwear, apparel, equipment and accessories -- will occupy a two-level, 19,707 square-foot store at the entrance across from Third Street Promenade.

CB2 -- which offers affordable, modern housewares and furniture -- will open its second store in the Los Angeles market, taking two levels totaling 14,436 square feet at the 4th Street entrance.

Burberry -- an internationally recognized luxury brand with stores across the world -- will take center stage on the main level’s signature Plaza where it will occupy a 3,133-square-foot space.

“This group of exceptional stores, totaling more than 37,000 square feet, adds to the considerable depth of the retail mix at Santa Monica Place – with three marquee retailers, two at key entrances and one at the heart of the project,” said Anne Singleton, vice president of leasing, for Macerich.

“The project’s momentum is terrific and we look forward to many more announcements this fall,” Singleton said.

The latest wave of tenants comes less than two months after Macerich announced it had added five new retailers and restaurants to the mix of upscale offerings at the new, three-level, open-air shopping and dining destination taking shape Downtown.

In February, Macerich announced it was adding eleven new establishments -- including restaurants that feature Latin American cuisine, Mexican fare and handmade pizza -- to the eclectic menu of offerings. ("Mall Gets Second Wave of Tenants," February 13, 2009)

Slated to reopen on August 6, 2010, the indoor mall will have been literally turned inside out, making it an upscale outdoor extension of the wildly popular Third Street Promenade. Shoppers will be invited to enjoy an open sky and diners to take in a sweeping view of the Pacific. ("Santa Monica Place to Open in August 2010," May 7, 2009)

Three weeks after the opening, Nordstrom will hold a grand opening of its own, joining Bloomingdale’s as the mall's other anchor store.
