October 2, 2009 -- Two suspects involved in a shooting that injured two men near the Santa Monica-Venice border were arrested after police chased down their truck on the freeway Wednesday evening.
The two victims -- an 18-year-old Latino man and a white man in his 70s -- were both shot in the leg shortly after 6 p.m. near 7th and Marine streets.
The older man is thought to have been an innocent bystander, police said.
Both victims were transported to a local hospital for their non-life threatening injuries, said Sgt. Jay Trisler, the Police Department spokesman.
The two suspects fled the scene in a white truck, which officers spotted traveling northbound on 4th Street onto eastbound I-10 freeway.
"As officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver failed to yield," Trisler said. "Officers initiated a pursuit as they entered the freeway."
The chase ended near the Centinela Avenue off-ramp when the suspects exited the vehicle and jumped down the embankment, Trisler said.
Police established a perimeter bounded by Bundy Drive, Centinela, Pearl Street and the I-10 freeway.
Officers searched the area and found the two suspects, who were described only as two Latino men, one 17, the other 19. They were arrested and booked for attempted homicide.
