February 20 – Fire gutted a mixed-use building on Lincoln Boulevard early Thursday morning, destroying a restaurant and second-floor apartments, Fire Department officials said. No injuries were reported.
Santino's Restaurant, which occupied the ground floor of the building at 3021 Lincoln Boulevard, had “heavy fire coming from the front and extending to the second floor apartment units above,” fire officials said.
“Firefighters arriving on scene immediately made an aggressive attack on the fire,” said Brad Graham, the department spokesman.
It took about 30 minutes for the fire companies put out the blaze, which started shortly after 1 a.m., he said.
The Fire Department response included 24 suppression personnel consisting of four Engine Companies, one Truck Company, one Hazmat response vehicle, a Rescue Ambulance and Battalion Chief Tom Hiller.
Opened by chef and manager Sergio Amata four years ago, Santino’s offered live entertainment and an eclectic menu that showcased a different specialty every day of the week.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, Graham said.
