Police Seek Dark Sedan in Hit-and-Run

By Lookout Staff

February 18 – Police are looking for a large, dark sedan with headlights shaped like “a cat’s eyes” that may have critically injured a bicyclist in Santa Monica last month then fled the scene.

After interviewing witnesses, police have concluded that the suspect vehicle in the January 17 hit-and-run may have been “a large sedan, dark blue or black in color,” said Sgt. Renaldi Thurston, the Police Department spokesman.

“Immediately after the collision this vehicle was seen driving west on Arizona from the collision,” Thurston said. “The vehicle may have dents or scratches to the front bumper and hood and possibly a cracked windshield.”

The initial investigation revealed that a red SUV or truck may have been involved in the accident, which took place shortly after midnight at the intersection of 20th Street at Arizona Avenue, Renaldi said.

The victim -- a 33-year-old male bicyclist -- was riding southbound on 20th Street when an unknown vehicle struck him, police said.

“After striking the cyclist, the vehicle ran over the bicycle and the rider’s body and then left the scene without rendering any assistance or notifying police,” Thurston said.

Investigators are requesting any information regarding similar looking vehicles seen in the area at the time of the collision.

Anyone with information should call Investigator Chris Dawson (310) 458-8954 or Sergeant Horn (310) 458-8950 or the on duty Watch Commander (24 hours) (310) 458-8427.
