Struck and Killed in Pico Neighborhood |

May 30 -- A bicyclist was hit and killed by a motorist
Wednesday afternoon after she fell from her bicycle across from
Woodlawn Cemetery in the Pico Neighborhood.
The victim -- identified as Carolyn Ackerson, 49, a Venice resident
– was riding on the 1900 block of 14th Street at around 3
p.m. when she lost control of her bicycle witnesses told police.
Ackerson veered across two lanes of traffic and fell off her bicycle
into an opposing lane of traffic, police said.
“She was struck by an oncoming vehicle,” said Sgt.
Renaldi Thurston, the Police Department spokesman.
Paramedics from the Santa Monica Fire Department responded and
transported cyclist to a local hospital, where she later died, Thurston
said.
The driver of the vehicle was not found to be at fault, police
said.
