Police Search for Robbery Suspect

By Lookout Staff

July 22 -- Police are looking for a man who robbed an elderly woman in her Sunset Park home early Friday morning.

The suspect made off with several possessions after entering the home on the 2300 block of 22nd Street at around 3:30 a.m., said Sgt. Renaldi Thurston, the Police Department spokesman.

“The elderly victim awoke to the sound of an intruder who was inside her residence,” Thurston said. “The suspect rummaged through her house and stole several personal items.”

Detectives have not established how the suspect entered the residence, police said.

The victim was not injured during the robbery, Thurston said.

The suspect is described as a male of unknown race. He is of medium height, thin build and was wearing dark clothing with a dark mask covering his face. No weapon was seen.

The robbery comes more than three months after police arrested a suspect in a series of burglaries that took place across the city.

Joaquin Palmer -- who had a string of prior arrests and convictions for burglary, robbery and rape -- was arrested on April 2 for attempted residential burglary.

The burglaries took place in the area bounded by Washington Avenue on the north, Broadway on the south, Lincoln Boulevard on the west and the city limits on Centinela Avenue on the east.

Anyone with additional information should call the Santa Monica Police Department Detectives at 310.458.8451 Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. or the Watch Commander at 310.458.8427 (24 hours).

Anyone wishing to remain anonymous may call the WeTip hotline at 1-800-78-CRIME (27463).
