May 18 -- Six suspects were arrested and charged
with attempted murder in the multiple stabbing of a man shortly
after midnight Thursday in the parking lot north of the Santa
Monica Pier, police said.
The victim -- who was stabbed in the torso and back during
a fight with the suspects --reportedly ran a short distance
to the lobby of the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company restaurant on
the pier, where he collapsed.
“He was treated at the scene by Santa Monica Fire Department
personnel and transported to an area hospital, where he is
in guarded condition,” said Lt. Alex Padilla, the Police
Department spokesman.
Police located eight suspects, who left the area on foot,
in the beach parking lot in the 1100 block of Pacific Coast
Highway, Padilla said. Five adult males and one juvenile male
were identified as being involved in the incident.
The six suspects were transported to the Santa Monica Jail,
where they were booked for attempted murder, police said.
Their bail was set at $500,000.
Four of the suspects are from West Covina. They have been
identified as Kenneth Scialpi, 21; Andrew Alvarado, 18; Gabriel
Fernandez, 18, and Daniel Fernandez, 21, according to police.
Also arrested were Michael Tejada, 20, of Temple City, and
a 17-year-old, who was released to his parents, police said
Police are still investigating the reason for the fight and
subsequent stabbing, according to the watch commander late
Thursday night. The weapon has not yet been located.
