May 3 -- A yoga studio, a restaurant, a limo-service
and a clinic are among the recipients of this year’s
Sustainable Quality Awards (SQA) presented by the City and
the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce.
The awards, which are in their 12th year, recognize local
businesses that make extraordinary contributions in economic
development, social responsibility and stewardship of the
environment.
“Attracting and retaining green businesses is an important
element of a sustainable city,” said Jim Lynch, the
chamber’s president and CEO. “These businesses
have shown that being green is an effective business strategy,
and they are making an important contribution to our community’s
environmental, social and economic viability.”
The 2007 SQA Grand Prize winners are Eco-Limo, The Phelps
Group, reDiscover, RMC Water & Environment, Wilshire Restaurant
and Yoga Works.
The Excellence Award winners are London Sole, California
Recycles, Ramer Architecture and the Venice Family Clinic.
“The voluntary activities these businesses have undertaken
result in cleaner air and water, less waste, reduced traffic
and pollution, improved quality of life for residents and
workers, and a strong and viable local economy,” according
to a statement announcing the awards.
The winners will be recognized at a luncheon on May 15 at
the Fairmont Miramar Hotel that will include a keynote address
by Linda Adams, Secretary of the California Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA).
The Emcee will be Ed Begley, Jr., star of HGTV’s Living
with Ed and a passionate supporter of the environment.
Pre-paid tickets for the luncheon -- which will take place
from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. -- are $45. Tickets can be reserved
by calling 310.393.9825. Tickets can also be purchased at
www.smchamber.com/events.
