June 5 -- A 37-year-old man believed to be homeless
is Santa Monica's first recorded homicide this year, after
he was found dead in a City park Sunday morning, possibly
the result of being hit in the head, according to police.
Officers responding to a call for assistance at the 1500
block of Palisades Park -- across from a senior center --
found a man lying under a bench with blood on his face when
they arrived at about 8 a.m. Sunday, Santa Monica police said
When police checked on the man – identified Monday
as Reza Tehrani -- he was determined to already be dead.
"He didn't appear to have other injuries, but had taken
a couple shots to the head," said Lt. Alex Padilla, the
Police Department spokesman.
No suspects have been identified and the investigation is
ongoing, Padilla said.
It is unknown how long the victim was dead at that location,
before being discovered, police said.
Police are also still trying to determine the murder weapon.
"We don't know that information right now, we are right
in the middle of our investigation," Padilla said.
