By Lookout Staff

July 25 -- Actress Lindsay Lohan was arrested by Santa Monica police early Tuesday morning for driving under the influence and possession of a small amount of cocaine, police said.

Police responded at 1:35 a.m. to a reported vehicle chase in the area of Main Street and Pico Boulevard and interviewed the drivers of the two vehicles in the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium parking lot, 1855 Main Street, police said.

The vehicle being chased -- a 2007 black Cadillac Escalade -- was being driven by the mother of Lindsay Lohan’s personal assistant, police said. The other vehicle -- a 2004 white GMC Yukon -- was being driven by Lindsay
Lohan.

“While conducting a preliminary investigation at the scene, officers smelled alcohol on Lindsay Lohan’s breath,” said Lt. Alex Padilla, the police department spokesman. “Lohan failed a field sobriety exam administered by the officers.”

Lohan was given the opportunity to take a Preliminary Alcohol Screening (PAS) test at the scene, but refused, Padilla said.

She was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and was transported to the Santa Monica Jail, he said.

She was given an alcohol breath test at the jail and failed, registering 12 percent and .13 percent, which is above the California legal limit of .08 percent, Padilla said.

During the booking process, officers found a small amount of cocaine in Lohan’s pocket, Padilla said.

Lohan was booked at the Santa Monica jail for driving under the influence, possession of a controlled substance and for driving with a suspended driver’s license, police said.

At 6:20 a.m.. Lohan’s attorney arrived at the Santa Monica Police Department and posted $25,000 bail, Padilla said.
