July 25 -- Actress
Lindsay Lohan was arrested by
Santa Monica police early Tuesday
morning for driving under the
influence and possession of
a small amount of cocaine, police
said.
Police responded at 1:35 a.m.
to a reported vehicle chase
in the area of Main Street and
Pico Boulevard and interviewed
the drivers of the two vehicles
in the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium
parking lot, 1855 Main Street,
police said.
The vehicle being chased --
a 2007 black Cadillac Escalade
-- was being driven by the mother
of Lindsay Lohan’s personal
assistant, police said. The
other vehicle -- a 2004 white
GMC Yukon -- was being driven
by Lindsay
Lohan.
“While conducting a preliminary
investigation at the scene,
officers smelled alcohol on
Lindsay Lohan’s breath,”
said Lt. Alex Padilla, the police
department spokesman. “Lohan
failed a field sobriety exam
administered by the officers.”
Lohan was given the opportunity
to take a Preliminary Alcohol
Screening (PAS) test at the
scene, but refused, Padilla
said.
She was arrested for driving
under the influence of alcohol
and was transported to the Santa
Monica Jail, he said.
She was given an alcohol breath
test at the jail and failed,
registering 12 percent and .13
percent, which is above the
California legal limit of .08
percent, Padilla said.
During the booking process,
officers found a small amount
of cocaine in Lohan’s
pocket, Padilla said.
Lohan was booked at the Santa
Monica jail for driving under
the influence, possession of
a controlled substance and for
driving with a suspended driver’s
license, police said.
At 6:20 a.m.. Lohan’s
attorney arrived at the Santa
Monica Police Department and
posted $25,000 bail, Padilla
said.
