April 18 -- Imagine taking a walk in the park without
taking a step.
Beginning later this month, Santa Monica will launch its
first attempt at video podcasting, allowing visitors and residents
to virtually participate in some of Santa Monica's signature
experiences through an internet download.
"You will soon be able to download a video podcast and
take a virtual tour," said Jory Wolf, the City's chief
information officer.
The first trip will begin with a digital stroll through the
yet to be opened Airport Park, which will make its grand opening
April 29. The park will also be equipped with wireless Internet
by May that can be accessed using laptop computers.
If successful, the podcast could allow virtual visitors to
experience scores of similar sites across the city.
Taking a ride on the pier or perusing the stacks at Santa
Monica's new library could all be just a click away for viewers,
said Wolf.
City officials see it as way to not only help tourists get
acquainted with the City, but encourage civic participation.
Internet downloads of City Council sessions and other key
meetings are currently available, with audio podcasting available
for other public meetings.
Downloading digital tours, however, will be a new endeavor for
the City. |
