Police Search for Escapee

May 6 -- Police are searching for a prisoner who escaped Wednesday from Los Angeles County Jail, where he was awaiting trial from crimes committed in Santa Monica.

The escapee is identified as Alonzo Fitzgerald Taylor, a 41-year-old black man, 6'4 tall and weighing 215 pounds, police said. He has black hair and brown eyes.

Taylor was last seen wearing a white county jail jumpsuit, said Lt. Frank Fabrega, the police department spokesman.

He was in custody pending trial for a 2004 kidnapping and robbery that occurred in the 1000 block of Bay Street, Fabrega said.
