Senior Day expected to Draw Hundreds on May 13 Bayside District Corporation and the Santa Monica Commission for the Senior Community are finalizing plans for the 12th Annual Senior Day. The Thursday, May 13, event will again take place at Santa Monica’s popular Third Street Promenade between Arizona Ave. and Santa Monica Blvd., starting with registration at 10:30 a.m. Senior Day recognizes community members 60 years of age and above. The Promenade event coincides with “Older Americans Month,” designated by the Department of Health & Human Services / Administration on Aging (AoA). The AoA’s theme for the month is “Aging Well, Living Well” and was chosen to “recognize older Americans who are living longer, healthier and more productive lives.” Three hundred seniors are anticipated to register for the day’s activities at the Promenade. They will be treated to free live entertainment, provided by musicians Terry & Shanna and Tunes R Us. Lunch will be served from noon to 12:30 p.m. for a $1.75 suggested donation. Special guest speakers will be Santa Monica Mayor Richard Bloom and Stephanie
Negriff, Director of Transportation for the Big Blue Bus. Prizes will
be awarded throughout the day from area businesses, including the Flower
Box, Fritto Misto, Locanda del Lago, Royalty Auto Body and Ye Olde King’s
Head. The City of Santa Monica Commission for the Senior Community works in an advisory capacity to the Santa Monica City Council and City management on matters pertaining to the senior community.
