Police Recover Pound of Pot During Search

By Lookout Staff

Jan. 11 -- Police recovered about one pound of marijuana, a bullet proof vest and ammunition Thursday morning while investigating shots fired on November 30, police said.

The investigation led to the arrest of three suspects, two of them previously arrested in connection to a string of shootings in the Pico Neighborhood last summer.

The arrests were made after police detectives served a search warrant at around 11 a.m. in the 1800 block of 9th Street relating to the firearm investigation.

Before they could enter the residence, a suspect threw a loaded gun out of the second floor window, police said. The detectives immediately recovered the weapon.

Police entered the residence and detained three individuals inside the apartment, which they searched.

During the search, detectives recovered approximately one pound of marijuana and drug paraphernalia used in the sales of the marijuana, as well as the bulletproof vest and ammunition.

The three suspects were arrested and transported to the Santa Monica Jail, police said. One female juvenile located inside the residence was brought to the police station and released to her mother.

The suspects are identified as Terrence Brown, Jackson Lipps and Jason Coleman, all of them Santa Monica residents.

Brown and Lipps were among eight suspects arrested last year in connection to a string of shootings in the Pico Neighborhood that left one dead.

The Los Angeles District Attorney’s office declined to take up the case against Brown for insufficient evidence, and in Lipps’ arrest, police brought no new case to the DA.

Brown, 23, was booked on Thursday for possession of a stolen handgun, criminal street gang enhancement and a court violation. Bail was set at $35,000.

Lipps, 20, was booked for possession for sales of marijuana, probation violation and criminal street gang enhancement. His bail was set at $20,000.

Coleman, 21, was booked for probation violation and interfering and obstruction. His bail was set at $10.000.
