Police Nab Two Transients Breaking into Cars

By Lookout Staff

Sept. 25 -- Two transients were arrested Monday night and booked for auto burglary and attempted auto theft after a witness watched them breaking into cars in Ocean Park, police said.

Officers responded to the 100 block of Pacific Avenue at 9:10 p.m., where a witness reported seeing the two men walking on the street trying car doors, said police spokesman Lt. Frank Fabrega.

The witness said that he continued to watch the suspects, and when he got to the area of ocean and pacific, he saw the suspects try to open a white jeep, Fabrega said.

"The witness saw the two suspects open the door and place an item inside the vehicle," he said. "They attempted to steal the car and fled on foot."

Police observed the suspects and placed them under arrest, Fabrega said.

The suspects were identified as Anthony Loren Janis, a 24-year-old white male, and Tad Davenport, a 23-year-old white male, both of them transients.

No bail was set for Janis because of a felony probation violation. Bail for Davenport was set at $20,000, Fabrega said.
