Carjacker Gets Away but Leaves Car Behind By Teresa Rochester Jan. 28 -- Police are searching for a carjacking suspect who eluded police in an early morning search Monday. The car was stolen after a woman returned home and parked the vehicle on the 300 block of California Avenue at around 2:18 a.m. She told police that a man approached her, pretended that he had a gun and demanded her money, credit cards and car keys, police Lt. Frank Fabrega said. The man fled in a dark colored Alpha Romeo. Within two minutes after police broadcast the car-jacking, officers spotted the vehicle in the area around the intersection of Lincoln and Santa Monica boulevards. Police followed the car eastbound on Broadway before the driver abandoned it on the 1200 block of Broadway. The man fled, and police set up a perimeter around the area, but the suspect slipped past officers. Investigators searching the car found the woman's stolen property inside.The suspect police are searching for is a black man and in his 30s. He is 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a heavy build and dark complexion. At the time of the robbery he was wearing black pants, a black or blue hooded jacket and a nylon-type ski mask. |
