Actor Arrested for Drunk Driving
By Lookout Staff
Nov. 8 -- Actor and director Forest Whitaker, best known for his
roles in "The Crying Game," and "Good Morning Vietnam,"
was arrested in Santa Monica early Saturday morning for driving while
intoxicated, authorities said.
A Santa Monica police officer pulled Whitaker, 40, over as he drove down
26th Street at around 4:20 a.m. The officer smelled alcohol on Whitaker's
breath and noticed other symptoms of intoxication, Lt. Frank Fabrega said.
Whitaker was asked to step out of the vehicle and take a series of field
sobriety tests. Police then arrested Whitaker for driving while intoxicated
and took him to the Santa Monica Jail where he was booked and later released
after he posted $12,500 bail.
The actor, who made his feature directing debut with "Waiting to Exhale,"
the popular movie based on Terry McMillan's best-selling novel, is scheduled
to appear in the Santa Monica Courthouse on Dec. 5 in Dept. S.
